Red Deer County receives prestigious Budget Award from the Government Finance Officers Association

Eighth consecutive year award recognizing documentation and outstanding budget presentation.


(RED DEER COUNTY) - Red Deer County is proud to announce for the eighth consecutive year, they have once again been named the recipient of the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for their 2023-2025 budget document.

The budget document lays out all Capital and Operating expenditures for the County, and details how tax dollars are used to provide services for ratepayers. The document contains both detailed and summary breakdowns of funding sources, policies, and highlights County finance over a multi-year timeline.

According to the Association, “The award represents a significant achievement, it reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the organization has to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.”

“Receiving this award for the eighth consecutive year demonstrates that Red Deer County continues to maintain high standards in being open, accountable and transparent, this award is a testament of our clear and concise financial information,” said Dave Dittrick, Corporate Services Director for Red Deer County.

“I would like to commend all the dedicated staff that have worked hard to produce an international award-winning budget document that details our operations and long-term strategy for service excellence and sustainability,” remarked Mayor Jim Wood.

About Government Finance Officers Association: Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada advances excellence in government finance by providing best practices, professional development, resources and practical research for more than 22,500 members and the communities they serve. The Association is based in Chicago, Illinois, and is the chief body for over 18,000 elected local, state, and provincial-level government finance officials. Before a municipality can receive the award, a copy of their budget document must be sent to the Association, where it undergoes a series of reviews by practicing experts in the field of Government finance.
