Assessment Report from Alberta Government vindicates Red Deer County

Assessment Report from Alberta Government vindicates Red Deer County of Alleged Contamination of Private Water Well

County’s gravel pit operations were reviewed and found not to have an impact on local aquifer

(RED DEER COUNTY) - On August 22, 2023, Red Deer County administration presented to Council the conclusion of an investigation report conducted by the Ministry of Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEPA). The assessment report states that Red Deer County’s sand and gravel pit operations (Lozynski Pit) had no impact to an adjacent private water well and was not the source of the elevated concentrations of aluminum and lead.

Mayor Jim Wood was pleased to hear the results of AEPA’s assessment and expressed his support in that Red Deer County’s administration continues to work within provincial guidelines to responsibly source gravel in the County.

“I appreciate that county operations understand the importance of sustainable development and caring for the environment, chief amongst this is following the rules,” declared Mayor Jim Wood.

“Red Deer County continues to adhere to the robust regulatory approval process, we have been and continue to be in full compliance with Alberta Environment regarding our sand and gravel pit operations,” stated Dave Dittrick, Assistant County Manager.
