2021 Election Information

Red Deer County’s 2021 Municipal Election is fast approaching, with Election Day (October 18) only a few weeks away. 

Municipalities and school boards (both public and private) throughout Alberta will be holding elections on Monday, October 18, 2021. 


In the special pull-out section on pages 9-12, residents will find profiles that have been provided by the candidates (this information is also included on the County’s election webpage at Elections will be held for Mayor and for Councillors in Divisions 1, 2, 3, 5, 6. Division 4 candidate Councilor Connie Huelsman has been acclaimed. 


Notice of Election and Requirements for Voter Identification and Notice of Advance Vote ads that include information about voting station locations and identification requirements are also included in this edition of the County News on page 4. 

Voters will be casting ballots for - Red Deer County Mayor, Red Deer County Councillor (where applicable), Chinook’s Edge School Trustee (where applicable), provincial 2021 Alberta Senate Election and the provincial 2021 Referendum Vote.

  •  Voter Eligibility Requirements – the voter is 18 years or older, has not voted before in the election, is a Canadian citizen, lives in the voting division on Election Day and has provided the required identification.

    Voter lists are not used in Municipal Elections. As a result, prior to casting a vote, each elector (voter) will be required to complete and sign an Elector Register, a form that is essentially an affidavit voters sign stating they are eligible to vote in the election.

  • Special (Mail-In) Ballot – Red Deer County is once again offering the option of vote by Special Ballot. Persons eligible to apply to vote by Special Ballot are electors who are unable to vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on election day because of (a) physical disability, (b) absence from the local jurisdiction, or (c) being an election worker, candidate, official agent or scrutineer who may be located on election day at a voting station other than that for the elector’s place of residence. 

Applications for Special Ballots will be received at the Red Deer County office during regular business hours between August 1, 2021, and 4 p.m. on October 18, 2021. More information is available on the County’s website or by contacting the Returning Officer at 403- 350-2152 or via email at
