RED DEER COUNTY invites letters of interest / applications from residents of Red Deer County who may be interested in sitting as a member at large on the following Council-appointed Boards: 

SUBDIVISION AND DEVELOPMENT APPEAL BOARD (SDAB) and INTERMUNICIPAL SUBDIVISION AND DEVELOPMENT APPEAL BOARD (ISDAB) – these are Quasi Judicial Boards hearing appeals arising from Development and Subdivision Applications within the County. ISDAB hears the appeals for properties located within the City of Red Deer and Red Deer County Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) area and the SDAB hears all other County appeals and also hears appeals for the Town of Bowden and the Village of Delburne. 

These Boards meet as required and the meetings are held during the day on weekdays. Appointments to these Boards are for a 3 year term. 

Members of SDAB are also appointed as the members of the NUISANCE ABATEMENT COMMITTEE - this committee reviews and has discretion with regard to further action on any nuisance and unsightly condition complaints as per the conditions of the Nuisance Abatement Bylaw No. 2015/33. 

Board members receive an honorarium for their participation in these hearings. The successful candidate is required to complete mandatory provincial appeal board training prior to hearing an appeal. 

AGRICULTURAL SERVICES BOARD – The primary function of this Board is to assist producers to achieve sustainable agricultural production as well as considering environmental and social issues as they relate to agriculture. This seven-member board consists of three members of County Council and four members at large. This Board meets a minimum of four times a year and meetings are held during the day. Appointments to this Board are for a 3-year term. 

RED DEER REGIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY - The Authority owns the Red Deer Airport and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of this facility. The Board of Directors is tasked with providing governance for the Authority and development of the strategic direction for the Airport. Red Deer County appoints six members to the 12-person Board and is presently seeking applications for a member for a 4-year term commencing January 1, 2022. 

Experience on other governance boards; senior leadership from business and other areas, with strong strategic acumen and large spheres of influence locally and provincially; and experience with community engagement including representing your community and/or organizations of which you were or are a board member would be considered assets. 

This volunteer opportunity includes a time commitment of a minimum 9 Board meetings a year (approximately 90 minutes in length, held on the third Thursday of the month) and an additional 3 to 4 hours per month for Committee meetings.

CENTRAL ALBERTA ECONOMIC PARTNERSHIP (CAEP) – This is a regional alliance that promotes economic development throughout central Alberta. Members of the business community are invited to apply to sit as an appointed representative for the County’s business community and to help promote regional economic development in Central Alberta.
