With the election quickly approaching, the next couple of GIS articles will focus on a site specifically for elections. First, to find the site, go to rdcounty.ca. Once on the site, you’ll click on the County Maps button on the left. Then you’ll see the Elections 2017 option on the left and you’ll chose the “Where Do I Vote?” option. On that page, you will see the “Voting Stations Map” button. Clicking on the button will take you to the Elections 2017 site. When using the 2017 site, you will notice the “I Want To ...” button in the top left. This is where you will find all the tools you need to locate which Division you are in and the voting stations you can go to by your address or roll number, which voting station is closest to you, and you can also search for individual voting stations by name. When you click on a tool, a form will pop up for you to fill out. All of the forms have autocomplete and will show a list of valid options to choose from while you type. Once one or more options show up, you can simply select the one you would like to use. Any results will be highlighted on the map and there will also be a list of results on the left side of the screen. If you know which division you are in, you can simply click on it and that division will be highlighted and a map tip will pop up, showing all of the voting stations in the division. You can also click on voting stations to get a similar map tip that shows the name and address of the voting station and which division it is in.
