Perennial food production on your land can take many forms in the Parkland ecosystem, one of those being trees and shrubs. Trees and shrubs can produce edible crops. The following list of plants, if added to your landscape, could provide you with fresh picking from June into September: honeyberry, black and red currants, raspberry, nanking cherry, saskatoon berry, chokecherry, pin cherry, sour cherry, highbush cranberry, plum, apricot, pear, apple, plumcot and even shipova. The only caveat is to make sure that you choose varieties that are hardy to Zone 3 or a Zone 4 variety but plant it in a microclimate.
