Town of Bowden Plans To Annex County Land

Bowden (1)

At the April 11 Council meeting, Red Deer County announced that it has received a formal Notice of Intent to Annex Lands from the Town of Bowden.

During a meeting held on December 7, 2016, with representatives of both municipalities in attendance, the Town expressed their desire to annex approximately 89.8 hectares (222 acres) located directly adjacent to the Town’s western boundary.

All of the subject lands are owned by the Town and include the Town’s wastewater lagoon, a non-operating land fill, a lift station for the South Red Deer Regional Wastewater System, a private commercial grain processing plant, as well some developed and undeveloped road and railroad right of ways.

Given that the lands are owned by the Town, and that no other land owners are involved, the County has agreed in principle to the proposed annexation area, and advised the Town to proceed with the annexation process.

As part of the annexation process, the Town also held an open house on March 28, 2017, to allow for public input. The process of annexation should begin in the near future.
