On February 17, 2017 members of the Red Deer County Technical Rescue Task Force were recognized in Malta for their support of regional police, civil protection and the volunteer Emergency Response and Rescue Corps.Five members, including Assistant County Manager Ric Henderson, were given the rank and grade of Officer of Merit from the Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem. The Order of Saint Lazarus is an international self-governing organization dedicated to the care and assistance of the poor and the sick, and a supporter of the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps. The five individuals receiving this prestigious award are volunteers for both the Technical Rescue Task Force and members of the Canadian International Rescue Organization. The Canadian International Rescue Organization, or CIRO, travels internationally to share information regarding best practices and techniques used by emergency services personnel.
