Red Deer County Technical Rescue Task Force (RDCTRTF) conducted a series of successful grain entrapment demonstration rescues at the 2017 FarmTech Conference in Edmonton from January 31 to February 2 at Northlands. 12 members took the initial training on the evening of Friday, January 27 and 10 members were involved in delivering the demos in Edmonton over that three-day period. This was in support of the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association and their plan to have a grain rescue training apparatus built and placed in Alberta. Red Deer County Council has donated $30,000.00 over a three-year period for this project. The Canadian Agricultural Safety Association (CASA) co-ordinates, develops and leads national initiatives to help farmers, their families and workers recognize and manage safety risks; the CASA grain safety program, known as BeGrainSafe focuses on the perils associated with grain entrapments. The mobile grain safety training unit will be used to provide demonstrations, which are key components of education and awareness for farmers, as well as training for first responders and larger farms on proper rescue techniques.
