According to the latest Statistics Canada census information, the 2016 enumerated population of Red Deer County (Municipal district) was 19,541. This represents an increase of 6.7% from 2011. This also compares to the provincial average of 11.6% and the national average of 5.0%.At 11.6%, Alberta continued to have the highest growth rate of all the provinces, up from 10.8 per cent in 2011. As far as urban areas went, bedroom communities such as Blackfalds (+48%), Beaumont (+31%), and Sylvan Lake (+19.6%) were some of the fastest growing places in the country. The Town of Penhold experienced tremendous growth at 38%, while Bowden and Innisfail experienced small decreases in population over the last five years.The City of Red Deer grew almost 11% since 2011. It officially finished 2016 as the third largest municipality in Alberta at 100,418 residents.The census counted 35,151,728 people nation-wide in 2016. That represents an increase of 1.7 million for a growth rate of five per cent — slightly lower than the 5.9 percent reported in the 2006-2011 census period, but still the highest growth rate among all G7 countries.
