Start planning your 2022 ALUS project

For the first time ever in 2021, demand for funding from the ALUS Program has outstripped the funding available.

We think this demand will continue in 2022, as the popularity of ALUS grows. So, we are putting a deadline for ALUS funding applications in 2022: March 31, 2022.

In other words: now, or this winter, is the perfect time to plan your 2022 ALUS Project. Please give us a call anytime between now and March 31, 2022. We’ll work with you on your ALUS funding application.

ALUS pays farmers and ranchers for your management that produces increased environmental services. ALUS covers up to 85% of costs for establishing projects, like alternative livestock watering systems, riparian management fencing, establishing buffers between crops and water bodies, and more. PLUS, ALUS pays up to $75 per acre per year, for the acres of land where the environmental services are increasing.

So far in Red Deer County in 2021, 28 farmers and ranchers have signed agreements to receive a total of almost $300,000 from the ALUS Program. They are getting paid to produce increased environmental services from a total of 1600 acres of land. This is just in Red Deer County, and just in 2021.

Across Canada, there are 100s more producers, and 1000s more acres in ALUS. To learn how the ALUS Program can benefit your farm or ranch, call me at 403-505-9038 or any of our ALUS Farmer Liaisons: Kevin Ziola (west) at 403-352-0662, Tom Towers (central) at 403-352-6901 or Stephen Smith (east) at 403-318-3371.
