Community Services: What's Ahead in 2020

Happy Fam_edited-2

Red Deer County is helping residents to make 2020 healthy and fun!

January began with fitness, yoga, qigong and youth art classes across the County. Community Services programming continues to grow across the County, with new programs and locations being offered each session. Community Services staff have been meeting with residents to find out their needs and interests and to offer unique and fun programming in rural settings.

Red Deer County Community Services has been very busy with a wide variety of events, activities and planning throughout January. In addition to all of the regularly scheduled programming, some highlights include:

  • Wellness Workshops were offered on January 20 and 22 to 30 attendees. (More information on page 16).
  • On January 22, Instructor Blair Thorson taught a sketching class to 28 attendees at the Spruce View Senior Centre.
  • A Community Taco Night was held in Benalto on January 28, with more than 80 local residents in attendance.
  • We are proud to share that Red Deer County will now have a Family Resource Centre in Springbrook to support local activities of FCSS, recreation and community groups.  A grand opening event is scheduled for March 14, 2020.

Red Deer County is proud to offer high-quality programming and to provide responsive opportunities for community feedback. Working with local residents and instructors helps to create unique and fun events that represent the rural Red Deer County community spirit.

Mayor Jim Wood commented, “Council is committed to providing recreation options right here in the County that encourage people to be active and healthy. We are extremely proud of the events that have been held thus far, and we are excited for new events that are on the horizon. I hope as many people take advantage of these options as we can manage.”

New programming will begin in March, so please watch for the March Program Guide, which will include information about FCSS and recreation offerings available to you! If there is programming that you would like to see in your area, please contact Community Services at 403.350.2150 or at communityservices@rdcounty.ca to share.
