Red Deer County Community Services is proud to announce the enhancement of recreation programming for fall 2019. In addition to the FCSS programming currently scheduled in Red Deer County, residents will have access to recreation programming within their own communities.
Rural fitness classes including Yoga, Resistance Training, Sit and Be Fit and Qigong (a healing art similar to Tai Chi that combines movement, breathing and meditation for relaxation and fitness) are beginning in September across the County at local community halls and County facilities. Registration for courses will be made available on the County website and at the County Centre.
The Needs Assessment completed by Red Deer County residents in 2017 identified the necessity for opportunities closer to home so that rural residents would not have to travel to urban centers to participate. Yoga and Fitness Classes hosted in rural settings were one of the top priorities determined by the assessment.
“This is a great chance for our rural residents to enjoy some different healthy and fun activities without having to travel out of the County. It’s also a chance to increase the use of our beautiful community halls and to connect people in their local areas. We are proud to improve recreation opportunities for our residents and look forward to an even larger schedule of activities in 2020!” - Mayor Jim Wood
Community Services Administration has been connecting with Recreation and Culture boards and many County volunteers to discuss possible recreation offerings and to prevent duplication of activities. The County is committed to supporting the assets that already exist, and there are many talented County residents with abilities to share with their neighbours. If you or someone you know is interested in sharing a talent or passion with your community, please contact email@example.com or 403-350-2150.
