Martial arts studio wins business of the year award“Thrilled” is how Seoungmin Rim described winning the Red Deer and District Chamber of Commerce business of the year award.
Rim, who owns Master Rim’s Taekwondo located in Gasoline Alley, won the Business of the Year award for businesses with one to 10 employees at the Oct. 17 business of the year awards ceremony in Red Deer.
Rim said they were nominated as a finalist in 2016 and didn’t win, but he was excited and honoured to win this year.
“When our name was called out, of course we were thrilled,” said Rim, who took the stage, shook some hands and said a few words.
“I came to Red Deer with pretty much nothing except being tall, dark and handsome. I expressed our gratitude, from the bottom of our hearts, for welcoming us. They gave us an opportunity to share our passion and our culture.”
Rim came to Canada from South Korea 10 years ago and started his taekwondo business to share his passion for the martial art.
“Gasoline Alley is a hot bed of economic activity and it’s great to see one of the successful businesses who calls it home be honoured,” said Jim Wood, Red Deer County Mayor. “Red Deer County is very pleased to be working on a new area where businesses can thrive. The Junction 42 rest area will allow highway traffic a new place to find services. I know it will grow to become an exciting new location for many businesses.”
