Red Deer County is getting a little greener thanks to the Canada Winter Games.
Of the 2,019 trees donated as part of the CWG legacy project, 500 were donated to the County.
Those 500 trees were then planted at community halls throughout the County. Of the trees donated, 350 were white spruce, 55 were poplar and 35 were bur oak. They were planted at Antler Hill Hall, Centreville Hall, Cumberland Hall, Elnora Hall, Ridgewood Hall, Spruce View Agricultural Society for Dickson Arena, Trenville Park and the Valley Centre Hall.
The plaque presented by Lyn Radford to Sandra Badry read “As a legacy of the 2019 Canada Winter Games, 2,019 trees were planted in fall in an effort to mitigate climate change.”
