Digital Storytelling

Adrienne Herron (1)

Combining storytelling and digital media, here are some great new videos online with a quick view.

The videos focus on stewardship of land and water and are intended to educate and promote social change.

“Connections between Central Albertans and the land run deep,” said Ken Lewis, Red Deer County conservation coordinator. “These stories are about the connection told in the words and pictures of the farmers, ranchers and landowners themselves. We invite everyone to hear and see these stories.”

Adrienne Herron calls herself a steward in her video Lucky Cows. The video profiles a year in her life as she runs her cattle operation.

Tyler Goertzen offers the perspective of a new farming family who left office jobs to farm the land based on their ideals and values.

Tiffany Sigurdson shares her family’s long history working the land and their commitment to continue on the farm.

Stephen Smith’s video talks about the hardship his grandmother faced after the First World War, when her husband died and the roof blew off. And then pivoted to his family’s own farming challenges including the Pine Lake tornado of 2000 and how they’ve worked to sustain their land.

Funding for the project came from EPCOR, ATCO and the Government of Alberta.
