Family Services: Upcoming Events in your community


Red Deer County Council participates in a 10 year FCSS Multi-Municipal Agreement. For decades, Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) has been working as a provincial-municipal government initiative to enhance the social wellbeing of individuals, families and community in an effort to keep people resilient, well, and from falling into crisis.

Benalto Leisure Club meets every Thursday at 1:00 PM at the Leisure Centre. Great way to get out and meet new people. Play some games, eat some food, and have fun. Everyone is welcome!
Benalto Play Group - every Wednesday morning at 10:00 AM at the County Building (former school). Free play and crafts for children ages 0 to 6 years. Grand opportunity to meet other Benalto families.
Benalto Agricultural Society meets third Tuesday every month at 7:00 PM at Benalto Leisure Centre.
Benalto Booster Club meets second Tuesday every month at 7:30 PM. This club is responsible for many community activities and events. Come out and get involved!
Centre for Positive Relationships is available to residents of Benalto and area. The Centre offers a variety of resources regarding all manners of relationships, including domestic violence, childhood trauma, death and grief, bullying, suicide and much more. There are also many children’s resources available as well.
Collective Kitchen will be running once a month. Please check the Benalto Community Facebook page for details.
SEEDS – An Early Literacy Program for children aged 0 to 6. Children are introduced to the wonderful world of reading through storytelling and activities. The program will run every Friday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Parent participation is required. To register, please contact Camille Box, 403.597.8074 or email

Delburne Interagency Meeting – Nov. 28th from 12:00 NOON to 1:30 PM, at Delburne Drop-In Centre. Lunch is provided. Representatives from agencies, organizations, businesses, and interested individuals are welcome to attend. Please RSVP by November 26 by contacting FCSS at 403.749.3654 or
Cooking with Seniors 55+ -- Final Fall Cooking Sessions is Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Delburne Community Hall. Cost is $5 per person. We would like to thank the following people for their generous donations to our collection kitchen: Klein Farms, Diane Gunter, Kathy Faulk, and Donna Inkin. Elnora Play School – Wednesdays and alternating Mondays and Fridays from 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Elnora School in the Kindergarten Room. Brittany Swanson is new teacher. Elnora Youth Center – Is your child, youth or teen looking for some great after-school activities? The Elnora Youth Center has received an additional 3 years of funding which goes to year 2020 so our youth have a wonderful opportunity close to home. For more information, call 403.773.3920.
Elnora Lifeline administered by Elnora FCSS. For a minimal monthly fee, residents can access help 24 hours a day. Simply push the Lifeline Help Button to connect to a Response Centre. For more information, please call 403.773.3920.
Little Free Libraries – Elnora has 3 Little Libraries, all full of books for all ages. This has been a huge success. For more information, please call FCSS, 403.773.3920.

Charity Check Stop – Nov. 3, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Highway 2A going through Penhold. Money collected will go to support Christmas charities, and the fee assistance program in Penhold.
Babysitter’s Course – Nov. 17 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at Penhold Multiplex in the Subway Club Room. Cost is $50. Register today at

Springbrook Archery Club – Thursdays, 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, Fridays 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Club available for private bookings and parties. Located downstairs through south entrance of Springbrook Multiplex. 2019 memberships now available. New archers welcome! Call Donna, 403.573.4451 for information.
Springbrook Community Skatepark Committee (SC2) – Corporate Sponsorship Packages now available. SC2 has permanent bottle donation bin on skatepark land behind Springbrook Multiplex, all money raised goes to skatepark construction. Next meeting is November 7 at 7:00 PM, Springbrook Fire Hall. Spruce View Playgroup/Spruce View Parent Link – Program runs Thursdays from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, at Spruce View Hall. No charge, but parent supervision is a must. This program helps decrease isolations, helps build relationships, and also helps families become aware of all the available community events and programs. Come join us, have a coffee, and meet local families from the area!
Spruce View Boys and Girls Club – Mondays at Spruce View School. Kids Club for ages 6 to 9, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM. Torch Club for ages 10 to 14 years, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

Spruce View Community Directory – In process of updating the West County Community Directory. Please contact FCSS to update your information on community groups/organizations.
Community Kitchen Program – Community members gather once a month to make affordable freezer meals. Some examples are meals for the grill, soups and stews, casseroles, and Christmas baking. This program helps socialization, decreases isolation, builds community relationships, and increases awareness of programs and services offered in our community. Looking at November for first date – stay tuned!
Spruce View Community Welcomers Program – Still a very active program where new community members are welcomed by volunteers with a basket full of information. This program helps increase awareness of community programs/services/businesses, and reduces isolation for new families. Please contact FCSS if you are new or know of someone who is new to Spruce View and area.
