The 2018 Red Deer County Ag Tour proudly showcased the produce, technologies, and expertise of local producers to enthusiastic agriculture tourists.WATCH THE VIDEOOur first stop was at Beck Farms, southwest of Innisfail. This family operation features 40 acres of vegetable production, including carrots, cole crops, beets, dill, parsnips, eggplant, and peppers. You can find their amazing produce at Farmer's Markets across the province! www.innisfailgrowers.com The next stop on the 2018 Ag Tour was at the Van Der Gun Dairy, east of Spruce View. The Van Der Gun family milks 130 cows, producing 18,000 glasses of milk daily. They also farm 400 acres of barley, alfalfa, and grass hay. www.albertamilk.com At the Spruce View Hall, the Red Deer County Conservation Team of Ken Lewis and Aimee Delaney, showcased the benefits of healthy soils on farmland using a rain simulator. You can learn more about County Conservation projects and funding at www.rdcounty.ca The Ag Tour continued on to the Stauffer Feedlot, south of Benalto, which feeds 3000 yearlings and 1500 calves. This feedlot uses a barley-silage mix for feed, follows regimented record keeping, and boasts above-average cattle success. www.albertabeef.org The final stop on the 2018 Ag Tour was at Ammeter Farm, south of Sylvan Lake. This family operation harvests 1500 acres of wheat, barley, canola, and peas.
