On June 12, County Council approved a new recreation and culture agreement between Red Deer County and the Town of Bowden. The previous agreement had expired at the end of 2017, and a new five-year agreement was required to continue financial support. In all County recreation and culture agreements, the County provides annual grant funds based on the urban municipality population, plus a per capita grant based on rural population within the urban municipality catchment area. Some details of the agreement include:
The payment helps cover only operating and maintenance costs (not capital costs) for Bowden recreation facilities. Red Deer County Council will address requests for capital contributions on a case-by-case basis.According to Community Services Manager Jo-Ann Symington, “The annual payment from the County ensures that participants from Red Deer County have access to Bowden facilities and programs and are entitled to the same registration fee as town residents.”The proposal was approved unanimously by Council.
