At the March 6 Council meeting, Red Deer County Council awarded the contract for the paving of Range Road 10 from Hwy 592 to Burnt Lake Trail to Richardson Bros. (Olds) Ltd.There were a total of 7 compliant bids submitted, with Richardson Bros. receiving the highest score using the County’s matrix system. The winning bid came in at $5.5M, which was below the County’s anticipated cost of $6.2M.Mayor Jim Wood commented, “We are still receiving a great amount of interest in our tenders. I am very pleased that the cost of this project is under our anticipated budget, and I see this as progress for Red Deer County.”The project is one of the largest on the County’s road network plan for 2018. The item was also near the top of the list for Council’s strategic plan for 2018. The reconstruction of the road will allow heavier commercial and agricultural traffic on the road – adding it to an already extensive list of ‘market roads’ that Red Deer County maintains for commercial traffic.Richardson Bros. is not a new contractor for Red Deer County, and has fulfilled past projects to a satisfactory level. Council was happy to receive a budget update from Corporate Services showing an overall savings of several million dollars under the public works banner for 2017.
