Community Needs Assessment Study results helped shape new Strategic PlanOn March 27, at the Red Deer County Council meeting, a five year Community Services Strategic Plan was approved.Red Deer County’s Community Services Department established this five year Strategic Plan to help guide the development of policies, services, and initiatives between 2018 and 2022. This Strategic Plan has been shaped by the findings from the research and citizen engagement process conducted in the 2017 Community Needs Assessment Study.Previously, Red Deer County assisted various volunteer-based organizations operating in the County, such as recreation and culture boards, community halls and facilities, heritage groups, and agricultural societies. While some of these organizations effectively managed and coordinated opportunities for residents, others were challenged due to a lack of resources, limited capabilities, or inadequate facilities. This resulted in service gaps throughout Red Deer County. In order to meet the expectations of residents, as identified in the Community Needs Assessment Study, the new Community Services Strategic Plan creates an opportunity for Red Deer County to fill service gaps and apply additional resources to programming, services, and facilities over the next five years. Residents stand to benefit from the implementation of new goals, objectives, and initiatives in the areas of recreation, culture and volunteerism, family and community support services, open spaces, seniors and affordable housing, library services, heritage, and transit.
