The meeting was called to order at 10:07 a.m. with Chairperson Councillor J. Bota, Councillors P. Massier and C. Moore, and Members at Large M. Hamilton, R. Bradshaw, S. Bell, and K. Ziola in attendance.AGENDA & MINUTES The agenda and minutes of the November 29, 2017, meeting were approved as submitted.DELEGATIONS/PRESENTATIONSFarm Safety Centre - Laura Nelson provided an overview of the Farm Safety Centre and their programs. There are currently 8 regional instructors, with presentations being given to rural schools around the province for grades K-6. Last year the Farm Safety Centre presented to 15 schools within Red Deer County totalling over 2900 students. Red Deer County has been a sponsor of the farm safety centre since 2010.REPORTSClubroot Policy and Procedure Review - Administration presented a review of the Clubroot Policy and Procedure, with no proposed changes to the policy. Some suggested changes to the procedure included providing clarity on the duration when issuing notices and risk factors for priority of inspections. Unanimous approval was given to the suggested changes to the procedure. Rental Sprayer Program - Administration presented a summary of the current Rental Sprayer Program. Administration was directed to review the viability of the program and pursue partnerships through community engagement. Unanimous approval was given to staff to pursue other new opportunities for partnerships among community groups to offer this rental spray equipment.ADMINISTRATION ITEMS AND UPDATES 2018 ASB Resolutions Summary - Administration provided a summary of the proposed 12 resolutions for discussion. Some resolutions included instituting a requirement to report certain pests to the local authority, crop insurance for Alberta Fruit Producers, labeling of organic food, farm direct marketing of chickens and eggs as well as chemical control of wireworms. Chairperson J. Bota will vote on the resolutions at the upcoming Provincial Ag Service Board Conference in Grande Prairie on January 16-18, 2018.2017 ASB Summer Tour Wrap-Up - Administration provided an overview of the 2017 ASB Summer Tour that was held in conjunction with Mountain View County. Overview included program costs and staff time that went into the event, with a recommendation being provided for any future municipalities that wish to undertake the event moving forward.DISCUSSIONUpdates on activities since the last meeting were provided by Council, Board and Alberta Agriculture. This included updates on upcoming workshops and conferences including: Farm Tech, Herbicide Resistance Seminar, and the Beef Industry Conference.The meeting adjourned at 2:31 PM.
