At a special event held on January 16, 2018, Westerner Park, the City of Red Deer, Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association announced the City will be the rodeo’s home for the next 10 years. The Canadian Finals Rodeo will be held the week before the annual Agri-Trade Equipment Expo at Westerner Park. This year, the event will be held on October 30 to November 4, 2018. Westerner Park and Red Deer & District Chamber of Commerce began working on their vision for a multi-year proposal to the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association several months ago and pitched their bid by hosting an event to showcase Red Deer as a strong contender.“We’re incredibly proud that this event will be coming to Central Alberta and would like to congratulate the City of Red Deer on their hard work to bring the Canadian Finals Rodeo to our region,” said Red Deer County Mayor, Jim Wood. “Not only will our communities and businesses benefit immensely, it’s an amazing opportunity to showcase what Central Alberta has to offer.” The CFR is expected to bring in approximately $20 to $30 million into the Red Deer region annually. “Over the next 10 years, we look forward to working closely with our partners to ensure these future events are a success.”Since 1974, the Canadian Finals Rodeo has been held in Edmonton at the Northlands Coliseum. However, the facility was shut down with the opening of Rogers Place, leaving the event in search of a new home. Events at the Rodeo include bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, barrel racing and bull riding. Ticket pricing is yet to be determined, but all tickets will be sold through ticketsalberta.com.Stay tuned for more information on the Canadian Finals Rodeo coming to Central Alberta.
