It’s starting to get chilly out here this time of year, and unfortunately that means on-the-ground environmental projects are wrapping up. Luckily creating a greener space on your acreage doesn’t need to be put on hold too – Winter being a great time to start putting a plan together for new year ideas. From finding ideas, to making a plan and ultimately execute those plans, the Green Acreages program may be able to help. For those who don’t know, the Green Acreages program was put in place to help acreage owners access resources and possible funding for things like: native tree planting, riparian fencing, off-site livestock watering, increasing energy efficiency, creating pollinator/wildlife habitat, restore wetlands, and more.Green Acreages is a cost-share program with a 60 County/40 landowner split up to $2,000 per project. In addition, and sadly coming to a close, in 2017 anyone applying to Green Acreages will be entered into a draw for an extra $1,000 or $2,000 to go toward project costs – that’s $3,000 or $4,000 in total. All submissions must be in before December 1, 2017, and then a draw will be done to find the lucky winners. For acreage owners currently involved in the Green Acreages program, in order to be reimbursed for the hard work you’ve done, receipts will need to be submitted by December 1, 2017, as well.
